Enhanced User Experience

New TAB based interface

iDaq 2015 has a new TAB based interface that reduces the used display, organizes iDaq ADD-ONs, Projects and Hardware management in a easier way. Tab are displayed on right side of your display and are optimized for different screen resolution. Try this new interface with a touch screen to get the best user experience.

ADDONS have new buttons and easy-to-understand icons

ADD-ON interfaces have new buttons with re-designed icons to allows immediate comprehension of every functionality. Common functionalities have a new unified interface and button style. Most used features have been grouped and designed to be easily activated with one click.

New iDaq assistant

iDaq includes a new Assistant: a getting started guide that introduces basic commands to new users.

Device error description is displayed in device status led

When a device generates an error, its status led changes to red color and displays in its tipstrip the error description.Click on device status led to open the error dialog and get more details about the detected error(s).

New Device Error Dialog

When a device is Error State, its status led becomes red. click on device status led and the error dialog is displayed. Error dialog displays all detected errors on selected device and with Search Online button, iDaq opens the error page on or website to display details about detected error and how to fix it.

Search Online for new ADD-ONs

A new button in ADD-ONs TAB helps to search online if new ADD-ON have been release or newer versions of installed ADD-ONs have been published.

Easier ADD-ON Installation

ADD-ON installation procedure has been simplified: from ADD-ONs TAB click on Install button to install a new ADD-ON or upgrade existing ADD-ONs to newer versions.

Using Right Click to open Waveform Processing Unit User Guides

Waveform Processing Units (WPU) have their own user guide in PDF format. These help files are accessible directly from WPU selection dialog: right click on a WPU icon and its User Guide is automatically loaded. This feature requires Acrobat Reader.

New Project Management

iDaq Projects are managed with a new dedicated TAB which contains all commands to save, open and edit projects. Recent projects list is displayed in project TAB and current project name is indicated on top of Project TAB.

Use a smartphone to start/stop recording

iDaq 2015 and its new smartphone support allows to turn a smartphone into a remote control to start/stop recording sessions. Download the FREE application on Google Play available at and connect your Android Based smartphone/tablet to iDaq.

Enhanced Event Log

iDaq 2015 has a new event log with detailed description of all events, occurred in every measurement session. Logged events can be stored into log file, in CSV format and analysed with every text editor.

Simplified settings

Settings have been grouped in separate dialog windows, according to their topics. Setting dialogs are accessible from Setting TAB.

Online Support Request Link

iDaq 2015 includes a button that opens online page to request support. TOOLS for SMART MINDS help desk manages support requests as soon as they are received. With this functionality you can take advantage of iDaq support service from iDaq IDE.

Enhanced hardware error management for XNET-CAN devices

XNET-CAN Component has an enhanced management of hardware errors. It notifies users on specific hardware errors, for example Transceiver Not Powered, Undefined database, etc...

Software activation without Internet connection

iDaq 2015 and its ADD-ONs make use of new License library that allows to activate software modules without an active Internet connection.

New Action to acivate DIAdem scripts on trigger switch

A new action can be associated to trigger switches, that runs DIAdem and opens a selected VBscript. With this new action, iDaq and DIAdem can cooperate to create reports when a recording session ends, or to visualize recorded data in a specific manner.

New Action to run third party commands

A new action can be associated to trigger switches, that executes comands from a command line console. With this new action, iDaq can operate with third-party applications to create reports, visualize and process recorded data automatically.

iDaq ADD-ONs have enhanced interface for recording sessions selection and creation

ADD-ONs included in iDaq base distribution share a new enhanced interface to create and open recording sessions. New interface includes multiple previews, fast editing of connection settings, fast deletion and easy access to Cloud storage base on DropBox, GoogleDrive and Microsoft OneDrive.

iDaq checks installed devices at launch

When iDaq starts, checks if all installed devices are connected and interacts with user to verifiy devices not connected and to removed unavailable devices from list of managed acquisition boards.

For most devices, iDaq has a new channel selection window

For most devices, iDaq has a new channel selection window that allows user to select necessary channel only. For example, according to his needs, user can select a limited portion of the 32 channels of a NI-9205 module. This simplifies configuration and processing as well as increases performance.

In DAQmx devices, default sampling frequency changes according to the module in use

Some DAQmx modules, as NI-9233, NI-9234, and NI-9237, does not support any sampling frequency. In these cases,iDaq uses a default sampling frequency supported by the modules. For example, 2 kHz is used for NI-9233 and NI-9237, while 3200 Hz is used for NI-9234. For modules that haven't a contrain in the sampling frequency value, 1 kHz is used.

New interface for the WPU Probe editor

WPU Probe has a touch screen oriented editor.

In SyncCDAQMod, imported channels are renamed

In SyncCDAQMod devices, when different channel with same name are imported, an index is appended in order to avoid duplicated names.

Font size increased

Font size of texts in channel editors, and others iDaq windows has been increased.

Se un device dà errore, iDaq riconnette il device, utile per i sistemi non supervisionati. Permette inoltre di notificare via mail l'avvenuta diconnessione. è possibile definire il numero di riavvi automatici, il ritardo tra due riavvi consecutivi e gli indirizzi mail a cui notificare la disconnessione.

Data Logging

Automatic Defragment of TDMS Files

When TDMS are used to log data, an automatic defragment procedure is performed at logging completion. Defragmented TDMS files use less disk space and are loaded into memory in a shorter time.

Visualization and logging of images

Easy Data Logger visualizes and logs images in JPG format. Stored images are traced in a CSV file with image timestamps.

Support for smart-phone built-in sensors and camera

iDaq can acquire real-time signals from smart-phone sensors such gyroscopes and accelerometers and smart-phone cameras. iDaq turns a smart-phone into a portable acquisition device that can be integrated with existing aquisition boards.

CompactRIO Driver allows bi-directional communication

New CompactRIO Driver for iDaq extends communication capabilities between a Real-Time system and the Data Loggoer application, with bi-directional data exchange. This new feature available in cRIO SDK for iDaq, a FREE Toolkit for LabVIEW, allows to monitor data coming from a CompactRIO and passing settings to Real-time program in the same time.

iDaq supports myDAQ

Support of Synchronized cDAQ Chassis

iDaq now supports acquisition from Synchronized cDAQ Chassis. Component Sync cDAQ Chassis permits to aggregate more cDAQ Chassis in a unique device in order to perform a synchronized acquisition of modules which belong to different CompactDAQ chassis. With this component, channels of different chassis can be seen as if they belong to the same device.

New file format for saving data

iDaq supports a new file format (Fixed Size ASCII) to save acquired signals to text file.

Sensor and Device Configuration

RPM Measurement from a train of pulses - Phonic Wheel

With a new WPU (Waveform Processing Unit) included in iDaq 2015, you can turn a train of pulses into a RPM measure. Configuring a Phonic Wheel is very simple and allows to monitor and display and log the sped of rotating systems.

Easier Snapshots Management

iDaq uses Snapshots to backup and restore hardware configuration. Device settings and sensor settings are saved and reloaded with a new intuitive interface. All sensor parameters: calibration points, filters, additional processing units are saved in a unique file and can be reactivated with a mouse click.

Enhanced Input Delay Management

Acquisition devices that have input delay, such NI 9234 and NI 9229, are managed automatically by iDaq. No additional setup is required to properly configure the Input delay.

Easier Device Installation

To add a device, use the Add button in device TAB. Select the device type you want to add (DAQ-mx based device, CompactRIO, Camera, Player, etc.) and iDaq searches for connected devices compatible with your system. After device selection, iDaq configures automatically your acquisition system to get the best performance from it.

Easier DAQ-mx device settings

When configuring a DAQ-mx based device, a new interface optimized for touch screens is used. With this new interface, * Device Input Range, * Coupling, * Terminal Configuration, can be configured in a very intuitive way. User settings at device level are applied automatically to all channels.

Easier Configuration of analog acquisition from multiple modules in the same CompactDAQ

SyncCDAQMod, used to create a single acquisition task for multiple C Series modules in the same CompactDAQ Chassis, has a an easier configuration procedure. During channel import, settings are validated automatically before acquisition task is started and warning message is displayed if some channels are not properly configured.

Calculating Derivative of real-time signals

With a new WPU (Waveform Processing Unit) included in iDaq 2015, you can computate the Derivative of real-time signals. This WPU let you change a linear position sensor into a speed sensor, in few clicks.

Avaraging noisy signals

With a new WPU (Waveform Processing Unit) included in iDaq 2015, you can calculate the avarage of acquired samples to get a stable value of low speed signal. This WPU is useful for sensors acquired with low sampling rate, like temperatures, to remove the noise component in the signal.

Customization of number of digits in Polynomial Calibration

In Polynomial Calibration, it is possible to setup a custom number of digits, used to visualize calibration points and export points in .txt files. This feature allows to visualize with high precision, nominal calibration points that use more that three digits.

More Waveform Processing Units associated to the same channel

Up to three WPU can be configured for every analog input channel. With iDaq 2015, an analog signal can be calibrated, filtered and processed with an additional third WPU, in few clicks.

Support of CANdb databases (.dbc, .ncd) and Fibex databases (.xml)

XNET-CAN Component requires a database to monitor signals of the CAN bus. CANdb databases (.dbc, .ncd) and Fibex databases (.xml) can be used.The FIeld Bus EXchange (FIBEX) format, an XML-based standardized file format defined by the ASAM consortium, is used for describing automotive networks. The FIBEX database format is compatible with many different automotive protocols, making it a flexible standard. FIBEX is emerging as the de facto standard for the definition of FlexRay networks and is seeing rapid adoption for CAN networks. FIBEX databases are typically generated by vehicle network designers and shared with engineers working on a particular aspect of the vehicle.

Smartphone connection

Smartphone Component for iDaq allows you to connect your smartphone to iDaq in order to receive signals coming from smartphone sensors, images coming from smartphone camera, and digital commands.

Smart Configuration for CompactDAQ Chassis

iDaq includes a new configuration procedure for CompactDAQ Chassis with multiple analog input modules syncronized on asingle clock source. The new procedure is easier, imports channel settings from existing modules. User can include/exclude module from acquisition task with a single click. iDaq displays installed modules and empty slots on selected Chassis.

iDaq includes terminal configuration (PINOUT) for all supported National Instruments acquisition boards

iDaq includes the pinout schema with terminal configuration, for every supported device, made by National Instruments.Pinouts can be displayed with a single click from device "Document" page.

iDaq manages a new "Document" window for every installed device

iDaq manages a "Document" window for every connected device. Docuemnt window collects all documents associated to that device: PDF, WORD documents, images, etc.Documents can be added, viewed and removed with a single click.

iDaq support a new "Group" TAG for every analog input channel

Every analog input channel can be customized with a "Group" TAG to improve data mining and post processing, based on channel groups. "Group" is a free text TAG editable by user.

A new WPU for signal decimation and padding

A new WPU is included in iDaq base package, to performe decimation and padding on a selected channels. Decimation is useful to reduce signal sampling rate of a analog input channels connected to sensors with a low dynamic, and boost acquisition system performance.

Range and unit of measurement is customizable for each channel type

For each channel type (accelerometer, IEPE-Force, IEPE-Velocity, RTD, Gauge, ...) range and unit of measurement are customizable. In this way, user can completely configure channels according to the selected processing units.

Added 0.1 factor to the Probe WPU

The Probe WPU has 0.1 factor insteaf of 1 factor.

WPU Phonic Wheel support Hz and RPM calculation

The Phonic Wheel WPU processes an input square wave generated by a Phonic Wheel and calculates the correspondent rotational speed. Editor of WPU Phonic Wheel allows user to choose if rotational speed must be expressed in Hz or in RPM (revolution per minutes).

Support of all the compatible channel types in modules ENET-9219 and WLS-9219

Channels of these modules can be configured as Voltage Input, Current Input, RTD, Strain, Bridge, and Termocouple channels.

Two new configuration parameters for Accelerometer Channels

Accelerometers channels can be configured using two new parameters: Current Excitation Source and Currenct Excitation Value. iDaq channels are completely configurable in order to obtain the best from connected sensors.

New Channel Selection Mode

iDaq includes a new window for channel selection. Channel Selection Window is more intuitive and easy. It allos user to choose one of the supported channel types: accelerometers, voltage input, analog input, RTD, resistance, bridge, strain gauge, thermocouples, IEPE-Force, IEPE-Velocity, current input.

Clone channels

Analog channels can be duplicated. This can be useful to process the same real channel in different ways. For example, a signal can be visualized and stored both in raw format and filtered.

Per alcuni device, iDaq permette di esportare in file TSV diverse informazioni: Nome canale, unità di misura, range minimo e range massimo. Il file generato può essere facilmente modificato e successivamente importato. I Driver che supportano questa funzionalità sono il ModBus e S7.

Nuovi canali virtuali Polar->Cartesian e Cartesian->Polar

Due nuovi tipi di canali virtuali sono nativamente disponibili: Polar->Cartesian e Cartesian->Polar. Consentano di calcolare raggio e angolo a partire da due canali X e Y  viceversa.

Supporto per Siemens S7

iDaq Device Manager supporta l'acquisizione da PLC S7 Siemens tramite una connessione Ethernet. Permette di leggere e scrivere da: - S7-300 - S7-1200 - S7-1500

Default general configuration

General settings includes a new flag option to enable the use of default reboot settings for new devices. If this option is enabled, every new device uses the specified default reboot configuration and the email addresses list for notification.

Production status calculation

VC-industrial includes new production status that works with analog channel as source signal. This virtual channels allows evaluation of the production status of a machinery starting from its piece counter.

Device reboot according to the company calendar

iDaq device manager performs reboots of its devices according to the working hours. Starting from the company calendar, device reboot attempts are performed only during working hours.

Channel group

The group attribute is published in signal table for digital input, digital output, text data and cameras

Advanced signal processing with WPU on virtual channels

For virtual channels, you can configure WPUs even on virtual channels.  This feature allows to configure real-time processing blocks on calculated channels.

Default display digits

iDaq Device Manager allows you to define default display digits for each channel. This option can be set for Universal Driver, DAQ-mx driver, CompactRIO.

iDaq platforms supports acquisition, visualization and storage of text data. This feature is available for 3S, cRIO and Universal Driver

Device reboot at specific time

iDaq Device Manager can be configured to reboot devices at specific time.

Advanced virtual channel calculation

iDaq Device Manager allows you to configure multiple levels of virtual channels. You can define virtual channels calculated on other virtual channels.

New driver

iDaq Device Manager allows acquisition from Heidenhain CN. This extends the wide set of devices and machineries supported by iDaq Device Manager. With Heidenhain driver, you can acquire: tool info data, alarm and warning information, axis position, table data, program information and status data.

Customization of iDaq environment

Edit Device Icon

Change device icon to clearify the usage of every device. iDaq 2015 includes a set of device icons for the most common applciations: temperature, pressure and vibration measurement. In addition you can customize device icon and add new icons in PNG format.

New Password Dialog optimized for touch screen display

The new password dialog allows to set a password to lock iDaq IDE. this interface has been otimized for touch screens and recalls the style of modern smartphones.

iDaq has new enhanced interface to change device thumbnail

iDaq includes a new smart interface to display and select device thumbnails among a larger set of predefined thumbnails included in iDaq base distribution.

A new iDaq ADD-ON has beel released: Time-Lapse Creator

Time-Lapse Creator is a new FREE ADD-ON to create lapse video sequences starting from images (frames) captured with a specific frequency. Time-Lapse technique is usually used to create videos with a frame rate much higher that the frequency at which frames are captured. For example, an image of a scene may be captured once every second, then played back at 20 frames per seconds; the results is an apparent 20 times speed increase.

Installed components can be removed

Component Settings Window includes a button to remove installed components.

Clear password at start-up

New option Clear Password at Start-UP has been added in General Settings of iDaq. If enabled, password is not required when iDaq starts. Vice versa, if it is disabled, every time iDaq starts, password is required (if it has been set previously).

Buffer size option added for SyncCDAQ device

In SyncCDAQ devices, Buffer size is editable. In this way, users can define the most appropriate buffer size according to the number of channels and the machine's resources.

New virtual channels type

iDaq manages different virtual channel types: Math, Power, Decibel.

Extended chain of processing units (WPU)

The chain of processing units (WPU) allows user to place up to 5 units.

Support of DAQ-mx Counter acquisition with single DAQ-mx task and empty sample clock property

The counter acquisition module NI-9361 does not require an analog acquisition task to operate. iDaq now supports this kind of device.

Digital input line has now a dedicated dialog to set line properties

Support of a new channel for counter acquisition: DutyCycle

Duty Cycle is a DAQ-mx channel for Counter Acquisition. Duty Cycle channel returns the duty cycle value of pulse trains.

Period is a DAQ-mx channel for Counter Acquisition. Period Channel returns the period value of pulse trains.

Support of SCXI chassis

iDaq is now able to acquire data from SCXI chassis. All the signals acquired from the SCXI chassis are synchronized. National Instruments SCXI chassis are rugged, low-noise chassis that house, power, and control your SCXI modules and conditioned signals.

Generic PC Based Device

Minimization of Memory usage

iDaq includes several optimization to reduce memory usage when a subset of available signals is used by active logging tasks.

Minimization of Communication Band

iDaq 2015 includes several optimizations to reduce the band usage when data are transferred to remote clients. With iDaq 2015, multiple clients, standalone applications and LabVIEW IDE can be connected to the same instance of iDaq to receive data from the same device at the same time. iDaq is the only datalogger that allows data distribution, remote visualization and data logging on remote disk without specific settings. You do not have to care about all details of data transmission, iDaq does it for you.

Get full advantage of multicore technology

iDaq 2015 core has been optimized to take full advantae of multicore technology available on modern CPUs. With iDaq 2015, data acquisition tasks are distributed over all cores in your CPU. If multiple CPUs are available, iDaq can distribute its workload among all available cores to process virtual channels, process real-time data streams and more.

Time for Signal Table loading is increased

Loading of Signal Table has been increased. Loading time is up to 30 times as fast as in previous version of iDaq.

iDaq acquires images from cameras connected to National Instruments Frame Grabbers that support different connection interfaces: CameraLink, GigaEthernet, IEEE 1394, USB3 Vision and legacy connection buses.Use Frame Grabber Driver for iDaq to acquire images and videos from more than 1000 different cameras. This Driver requires a valid NI IMAQ Driver license.

iDaq acquires images from cameras with GIGAEthernet interface.Use Camera PRO Driver for iDaq to acquire images and videos from more than 1000 different cameras. This Driver requires a valid NI IMAQ-dx license.

Image Acquisition from image files

iDaq natively supports image acquisition from file, usingBMP-JPG-PNG Player Driver. supported image formats are BMP, JPG and PNG. This Driver allows to import images generated by third party systems such Keyence, Cognex, etc. Loaded images can be deleted so that Driver acts as a consumer, and system who generates the images acts as the producer.

Acquisition of text Streams

iDaq can acquire and publishes text streams like text files, databases, electronic devices. text streams are useful when you need to log alarm strings, status info or other data expressed in text format.

Acquisition of GPS positon

iDaq 2015 acquires GPS position and speed form a wide range of GPS devices. These data are useful for in-vehicle measurements, to correlate sensor values with DUT (Device Under Test) position.

Acquisition of Images

iDaq 2015 acquires images froma la rge set of different devices. More than 1000 cameras are supported, from low cost USB cameras, up to high end infrared cameras, line cameras, high res.cameras, with different connection interfaces: USB, Camera Link, Fire WIRE IEEE1394, GiogaEthernet and several Frame Grabbers are suppoted.Supported image formats are BMP, JPG, PNG and IMAQ, which requires NI IMAQ Vision.


iDaq includes a new ADD-ON for XY Charts

iDaq includes a new FREE ADD-ON to display XY-Charts. With this new ADD-ON you can correlate multiple signals on Y axis with a base signal on X chart.

New tool to visualize TDMS and DSV files

iDaq includes a new redesigned Advanced Signals Visualizer, a new application to visualize and to inspect recorded data in TDMS and DSV formats. ASV is the perfect tool to export portion of interest of your measurement sessions, from TDMS files, into Excel. ASV allows to apply filters, calculate Zero Offset, compare signals and measure significant parts of your signals in a quick intuitive way.
